Hello Tullia,

I would like to thank you for the service I received (and still receiving) when I recently underwent my Gastric Band operation on 1st July 2011.

I cannot praise highly enough the people involved. Tullia, who helped make the decision to have the op and with the answer to any question.  Chris Duprez for his easy going manner, his ’nothing is too much trouble’ attitude and Doctor Philip and his team. Outstanding.  Even Sam the taxi driver was nice.

From the time my daughter and I were picked up from Brussels Midi station and taken to the hotel, meeting Chris who explained exactly what was to happen the next day, to meeting Doctor Philip and having the op was such a pleasant, relaxing experience I didn’t feel as if I was to have an operation.

The aftercare by the staff at the hospital was very good, you easily could imagine that you were the only patient they had. The hospital room itself was very clean and tidy.

Whilst my daughter was supposed to have the Gastric Band operation after me. Doctor Philip decided he could not go ahead with it as he discovered a pre existing liver condition which was unknown to us.

He therefore ended up doing an emergency op on the liver (with another surgeon)

My daughter had to spend time in the intensive care unit. Doctor Philip not only kept me informed personally what was going on but he took me to see my daughter several times so I could see for myself that she was ok. I cannot thank Doctor Philip and his team enough for this as who knows what could have happened if the liver had started to bleed when my daughter was anywhere else other than on the operating table and it could have happened at anytime.

Chris also visited and was willing to change all our travel and hotel arrangements should it have been needed, we were not made to rush our decision and could have stayed in hospital longer if need be.

I really do recommend this team if you are thinking of having a Gastric Band. I feel great and on my way to losing weight and saved money into the bargain. What more can I say go for it its the best decision you will ever make.

It struck me that I tend to be gullible and that I possibly threw away hard-earned and needed money on a clever scam.

My trepidation continued until my final arrival in Belgium towards the end of March.

I was very pleasantly surprised indeed!!

From the first Tullia had been very understanding about my concerns and called me personally on numerous occassions to touch base-something a fraudster would certainly NOT do after the money was already in their bank account!!

The taxi-drivers went out of their way to accomodate me as did everyone upon my arrival. The hotel was clean, modern and sympathetic and the hospital was state of the art.

I am safely back home and am exceedingly grateful for the high level of care before, during and even now in terms of the follow-up care.

You are in very safe hands!!

My name is Kim and my starting weight prior to getting my Gastric Band fitted was 22.5 stone.

I made the decision after some internet research to go with the French Cosmetic Surgery group (Lazer Clinics (France Ltd). Although the cost was very attractive I was still very anxious going abroad for such a procedure.

After making contact with Tullia Law I was given the name of the surgeon and was able to check on his registration with the British Medical Board, I was also given dozens of names of people all over the United Kingdom and Ireland who had been through the procedure and I was able to contact them to discuss my concerns and ask questions.

Tullia provided me with information with regards to the pre arrangements i.e. travel, hotels, hospital and cost, every thing was easy to read and in English.

However, the big hurdle for me once I decided to go ahead was the money as I was to forward my money ahead of the surgery. I contacted a number of people to discuss this and they reassured me that it was fine and they had initially had the same anxieties. In the end I had to make a personal decision ‘is it worth the risk?’ I took the plunge and decided to go for it.

I was once again provided with straight forward English instructions and talked through the process with Tullia, once the money was transferred it was a matter of waiting on myhospital appointment. I was given details of dates and times etc. for my stay at the hospital. Once I arrived as directed, everything was very professional, straight forward and all completed in English.

I have no complaints about the quality of the hospital, doctors, the care I received or the process, in fact it was all to a very high standard. On leaving the hospital I was provided with comprehensive written information in English.

My only regret is I wish I had done it years ago as my weight at present is now 11.5 stone and I feel the best I have done in 20 years.

The placement of the gastric lap band creates a small pouch at the top of the stomachwhich holds approximately 50mls. This pouch ‘fills’ with food quickly and the passage of food from the top to the bottom of the stomach is slowed. As the upper part of the stomach believes it is full the message to the brain is that the stomach is full and this sensation helps the person to eat smaller portions, eat less and therefore lose weight over time.

The the gastric lap band is then inflated and adjusted via a small access port placed just under the skin subcutaneously on the abdomen. A Radio opaque isotonic solution orsaline solution is introduced into the gastric band via the port. A specialized needle is used to avoid damage to the port membrane. There are many port designs and they may be placed in varying positions based on the surgeons preference. The port may be sutured in place. When fluid is introduced the bariatric lap band expands placing additional pressure around the outside of the stomach. This decreases the size of the passage in the stomach and restricts the movement of food.

Over a period of time the restriction is increased by adjusting the gastric band until patients feel they have reached a sweet spot where optimal weight loss can be reached with the minimal fluid required.

This is an individual experience and timing cannot be predicted. The amount of fluid required in the gastric band is varied.

If considering pregnancy the patient should be in optimum nutritional status prior to conception, and deflation of the band may be required prior to conception. The gastric band may remain deflated during pregnancy and once breast feeding is completed the gastric lap band may be gradually re-inflated to aid post pregancy weight loss if needed.
